About WAGES

WAGES gives women the space to dream and the tools to work together to turn their dreams into reality. Since 1998, WAGES' main focus has been helping low-income Latina women in the greater San Francisco Bay Area establish environmentally friendly housecleaning cooperatives using EFC methods and products.

THE IMPACT OF WAGES' COOPERATIVES

• Coop members earn 50-100% more than they would make working for a conventional cleaning company. On average, their household incomes have increased by 40%.

• As they grow, the cooperatives provide health insurance and other benefits for their worker-owners - a rarity in service industry jobs.

• Many participants have taken on roles as peer trainers, coop managers and community educators. All have learned the pride of owning their own businesses, protecting their health, and offering a professional service that benefits their clients and communities.

• The WAGES coops have been on the cutting edge of “greening” the cleaning industry and have attracted local and national media attention.

• WAGES' staff and coop members also educate the community about environmental health and eco-friendly cleaning through our monthly Community Workshops.

• With our assistance, other organizations have started “green cooperatives” using WAGES' model - Eco-Bay Landscaping in Oakland and Eco-Clean in Winnipeg, Canada.
