Oakland-Based Non-profit Celebrates International Women's Day with Open House
3/1/01

Oakland, CA - Women’s Action to Gain Economic Security (WAGES) is a private, non-profit organization recently re-located to Oakland from Mountain View, CA that helps low-income women reach economic independence by starting their own business cooperatives. WAGES has been successfully starting and replicating women-owned environmentally sound housecleaning cooperatives since 1995.

WAGES would like to announce an open house to commemorate International Women’s Day as well as our new location:

Wednesday, March 7, 2001
12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m.
1214 Webster St., Suite B
Oakland, CA 94612

WAGES receives support for their education, management and technical assistance services from individual donors and foundations. Grants received in the first two months of 2001 include:

Comerica Bank $2,500
Rosenberg Foundation $50,000
Skoll Family Foundation $10,000

With this financial support, WAGES is looking forward to some exciting work. The organization plans to launch a website, introduce its program to organizations working with low-income women in the Oakland area, continue providing technical support to Emma's Eco-Clean in Redwood City and launch a new least-toxic housecleaning cooperative, Eco-Care in south San Jose/Morgan Hill.
