Mountain
View, CA - Women's Action to Gain Economic Security (WAGES),
is a private, non-profit organization located in Mountain View,
CA that helps low-income women reach ecnomic independence by starting
their own business cooperatives. WAGES has been successfully starting
and replicating women-owned and operated businesses here on the
Peninsula since 1995.
Wages would like to
announce that it has received the following grants during the second
and third quarters which will support their programs and operations
in 2000:

Bank of the West - $1,000
Columbia Foundation - $37,500
Compton Foundation - $2,000
Draper Foundation - $250
Flora Family Foundation - $10,000
Friedman Family Foundation - $10,000
Palo Alto Endowment - $5,000
San Francisco Foundation - $25,000
Union Bank - $1,000
Wakerly Family Foundation - $5,000
In addition, WAGES has
received word that they will receive a $64,000 grant from the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency for Pollution Prevention for 2000-2001.
With this financial
support, WAGES is looking forward to some exciting work. The organization
plans to launch a website, create internships for low-income women
to teach their new business partners least-toxic housecleaning methods
and business skills, continue on-going technical support to Emma's
Eco-Clean in Redwood City and to replicate a new least-toxic housecleaning
cooperative in south San Jose/Morgan Hill.
