Peninsula-Based Non-profit Announces Financial Support for 2000
4/10/00

Mountain View , CA - Women’s Action to Gain Economic Security (WAGES), is a private, non-profit organization located in Mountain View, CA that helps low-income women reach economic independence by starting their own business cooperatives. WAGES has been successfully starting and replicating women-owned and operated businesses here on the Peninsula since 1995. In collaboration with Non-Toxic Professional Housecleaning and Emma's Eco-Clean, WAGES was awarded the 1999 Peninsula Conservation Center Foundation's Business Environmental Award in the category of Social Equity for Sustainability.

WAGES would like to announce that it has received the following grants which will support their programs and operations in 2000:

California Wellness Foundation - $10,000
Catholic Healthcare West - $10,000
Comerica Bank - California Foundation - $2,500
Greater Bay Bancorp Foundation - $10,000
Luke B. Hancock Foundation - $25,000
Peninsula Community Foundation - Littlefield Fund - $20,000
Wells Fargo Bank - $10,000

In addition, WAGES has received tentative word that they will receive a $64,000 grant from the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency for Pollution Prevention.

With this financial support, WAGES is looking forward to some exciting work. The organization plans to launch a website, train low-income women how to teach their new business partners in the benefits of non-toxic housecleaning practices, create business internships within WAGES, continue on-going technical support to the existing businesses and to replicate a new least-toxic housecleaning cooperative in south San Jose/Morgan Hill.
